Home Made Mixing Medium

I know not everyone lives near a MAC Pro store, so its not very likely you have been able to get your hands on their Mixing Medium. Well its ok because you can make it yourself in the comfort of your own home. All you need are just a few ingredients for this delightful item. Thanks Ashton for this recipe :)

TOOLS
1) Glycerin, found at any drug store. Can be bought at Rite Aid for $4.99 (6 fl.oz)
2) Small container (this is where you will store your mixing medium)
3) Water

Use a small measuring cup, such a as medicine cup and start mixing. For every one part glycerin, use three times as much water. Shake it up and voila! Homemade Mixing Medium.

Example 1/4 Tablespoon of Glyercin

3/4 Tablespoon of Water

Larger Scale Example

1 Cup Glyercin

3 Cups Water

You can use this to mix with your powdered shadows and MAC pigments, mix some together on the back of your hand and then apply to lid. Here is an old video where I used it to apply my glitter.

-Create a more intense shadow- Loose or in pot
( Becareful not to mess up your shadow pot, only use 1/4-1/2 side of your shadow pot to avoid the whole thing getting wet.)

-Great for eyeliner

-Great for small glitter applications

i wonder if you can use it like, say, as a finishing spray. like if i put it in an atomizer and then spritz away after the makeup is done. would it still make the makeup last?

WHOA!!! I tried this recipe with loose eyeshadow powders AND the pressed kind (by scraping some off onto a spoon), I used my small concealer brush, dipped it into the glycerin/water mixture and had THE MOST BEAUTIFUL RESULTS!!!! Blending was so easy, smudging was easy and it -again- was soooo beautiful. THANK YOU, this site has been the greatest FIND!

I add a little Dimethicone and a teeny bit of vitamin E. That helps with preservation and staying power.
